Therapeutic Modalities
Assessed required competencies for the undergraduate athletic training student. Improved student learning by implementing critical thinking exercises. Compiled background literature in selected content areas as supplemental material for the course.
Rehabilitation Techniques
Conducted 1/3 of lectures and all labs. Assigned lectures included, Restoring ROM & Improving Flexibility, Maintaining Cardiorespiratory Fitness During Rehabilitation, Functional Progressions and Testing, Rehabilitation of the Groin, Hip & Thigh. Assessed needs of students and created tailored study guides for each student in preparation for BOC examination.

Athletic training student responsible for a multitude of sports through rotations. Participant in annual University of Iowa Sports Medicine Symposium, weekly sports medicine conference, and assisted in the collection of data for various research projects.

Medical rotations Included : General Medicine / Knee / Shoulder / Hand / Hip / Joint Replacement

Physician extender for sports medicine physicians and surgeons. Duties included rooming patients, taking detailed history, initial evaluation, case presentation, requesting referral, drawing injections, documenting encounters, patient instructions and clinic visit dictation.

Radiology / Research Four hours per week spent in musculoskeletal radiology where time was taken to understand how clinical diagnoses are discovered. Eight hours per week alloted for research time dedicated to maintaining sports medicine surgical outcomes database. Monthly surveys sent to participating subjects via email along with entering this information into the database and extracting data for use in clinic presentations. Development of survey for study beginning Spring '12.

Cross Country / Track & Field - Hosted WAC Cross Country Championships
Accountable for the complete health care of both M/W Cross Country and Track & Field teams, maintaining accurate record keeping, and recognizing conditions for referral. Conducted randomized drug testing, ImPACT Testing, long-term rehabilitation, short-term injury management, created a proactive exercise protocol for off-season conditioning. Assisted as a CI with the undergraduate athletic training education program. Worked closely with CAM FAI repair rehabilitation.

Summer Strength & Conditioning
UI Football
Organized new student physicals, transported athletes for medical screening. Injury evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation.

Third Year Rotation
UI Football - BCS Orange Bowl
Responsible for athletic training student schedule, injury record keeping, transportation of athletes, recording practice conditions for research study. Assisted staff with injury evaluation, injury treatment, rehabilitation planning/execution/adjustment, taping & stretching.
Worked closely with ACL reconstruction, shoulder labrum reconstruction & ankle tightrope syndesmosis fixation.

Second Year Rotation
UI Cross Country, Track & Field, Baseball, Football
Assisted staff with implementation of hamstring strengthening program, injury prevention, injury education, rehabilitation planning/execution/adjustment.

First Year Rotation
UI Football Camp, Track & Field, Cross Country, Baseball, Wrestling, Gymnastics, Rowing, Swimming, Big Ten Tennis Championships, City High Football
Assisted staff with therapeutic modalities. Observed injury evaluations, injury treatment, rehabilitation planning/execution/adjustment.

Certified Athletic Trainer - Summer 2010
Assisted in the coverage of 60+ youth football camp goers including, taping, hydration, acute wound care, and referral for emergency care.

Observed injury treatment and rehabilitation. Assisted in pre-game stretching routines, taping, and organization. Responsible for notification of injuries to team doctor during game. Assisted performing therapeutic modalities and plyometric drills for strength training.  

Assisted performing therapeutic modalities. Cleaned water coolers, and sanitized training tables and equipment.  Sports Covered – M/W Basketball - M Soccer - W Volleyball.  

Responsibilities included organizing workouts and training plans, and scheduling itineraries for away meets. Scheduled off season workout programs for athletes to prepare for regular season competition. Reported injuries to head coach and athletic trainer.
